Torus was featured among seven shortlisted teams in Shift’s 2026 Impact Grant announcement. The recognition places our New Jersey nonprofit alongside organizations using technology and practical climate action to address environmental problems.

Shift highlighted how Torus began when Matthew Gao, Anthony Woo, David Chen, and Zikang Jiang saw food waste accumulating in their school dining hall and recognized that access was a central barrier to composting. The feature also noted that Torus has since served more than 1,000 households and businesses and diverted over 250,000 pounds of food waste.

We are grateful to Shift for recognizing our work and sharing Torus with its community. PhyCo Technologies Inc. received this year’s grant, and we congratulate its team and the other organizations featured on the shortlist.
