Torus is now an official partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Feed It Onward initiative. We’re excited to join a national community working to prevent food waste and put more food to good use. For our team, it’s a meaningful step in work that starts close to home: helping New Jersey households make food-scrap collection part of everyday life.
What is Feed It Onward?
Feed It Onward is a voluntary EPA initiative that brings attention to organizations working on food waste prevention and recovery. Its partners include nonprofits, businesses, farms, and public organizations. The initiative connects food donors with communities and highlights practical ways to put surplus food to use instead of letting it become waste.
Participating organizations contribute in different ways. Some recover edible surplus food; others work on prevention, education, or diversion. Our participation reflects Torus’s own food waste work. It does not mean that every partner offers the same services.
What this means for Torus
For our team, joining the initiative is an opportunity to connect our local work with a broader public conversation about food waste. We appreciate the Feed It Onward team’s welcome and the chance to share what we are learning through community outreach and household participation.
Torus continues to focus on free curbside food-scrap pickup in our New Jersey service area and clear, useful education. Residents can check our cities served, review accepted materials, or learn more about how Torus works. The partnership listing does not announce a change to our pickup schedule, service area, or accepted materials.
Keeping the focus on preventing food waste
Collecting scraps is one part of the work. Planning meals, using food already at home, and storing ingredients carefully can help prevent edible food from becoming waste in the first place. EPA’s guide to preventing wasted food at home offers practical starting points for households.
For scraps that remain, the right next step depends on the material and the options available locally. Our composting methods guide explains home and community systems, alongside the distinction between aerobic composting and anaerobic digestion.
